Challenge Day 16

Let the Music Move You

Yesterday, we discussed the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle and why lack of movement is a big health problem for many American adults.

You know you need to exercise, but if you haven’t worked out in a while, the thought of a long walk on the treadmill or a jog around the neighborhood may not be your idea of a good time. At least, not yet. We hear you.

But what if you had a rockin’ soundtrack to work out or even dance to? The music won’t just lift your emotions while you exercise – it’ll also help your heart.

Aerobic activity gets your blood flowing, increases the amount of oxygen in your blood and makes the heart stronger, which can lower the risk of conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

Music has often been linked to effective workouts because it can improve your mood, distract from the fatigue of exercise and inspire you to maintain faster speeds.

So, sneak in a dance break to liven up your work day, blast some music while you get chores done or add upbeat songs to your workout playlist today.

Today’s Challenge

Need a starting point? Pick three tracks from our heart-related playlist to get your blood flowing—and then, just move. Whether you walk, run or dance to the tunes, see if you can get through three songs. Then, add another song to your “move it” playlist next week and so on and so on…. The beat goes on!
