Challenge Day 9

You Are What You Eat

When someone mentions heart-healthy food, you might imagine tasteless or boring meals, but that doesn’t have to be the case. After all, as they say, “the way to a man’s (or woman’s) heart is through the stomach.”

And, it turns out one of the best ways to a healthier heart is by making the right food choices.

Over the next few days, we’ll share information about foods that can boost heart health, why too much salt may be your heart’s worst enemy, and how adding more colorful food to your plate can help you stave off disease and live longer.

Until then, consider whether there are areas for improvement when it comes to what’s in your fridge or pantry. Are you stocked up on foods high in fat, sodium or sugar? Or, have you invested in heart-smart foods such as avocados, beans, berries, leafy greens and whole grains?

Today’s Challenge

Adding more fruits and vegetables is an easy way to improve your diet for a healthier heart. Try adding bananas or berries to your breakfast routine. Add a serving of vegetables to lunch every day. The key is planning ahead. So, make a list today, get your heart healthy groceries tomorrow (more shopping tips are coming in tomorrow’s email), and spend the next week eating fresh, flavorful, heart-healthy foods!
